Visit the salt pans of Trapani and Paceco with excursions from Trapani

The salt pans of Trapani and Paceco are a spectacular example of how nature and man can collaborate, creating landscapes of unparalleled beauty and ecological importance. These salt pans represent one of the most fascinating attractions in Sicily, attracting thousands of tourists from all over the world every year.

Trapani and the salt pans are not only places of production of sea salt, but also areas of great naturalistic value. The Trapani and Paceco salt pans, managed by the WWF, are an important sanctuary for numerous species of migratory birds, including pink flamingos that stop here during their migratory routes.

Visiting them means embarking on a journey through time, where ancient salt harvesting techniques combine with modern conservation practices. The salt pans of Trapani extend along the coast from Trapani to Paceco, offering breathtaking views where the white of the salt piles mixes with the blue of the sea and the red of the sunsets.

The Trapani salt pans are not only a place of work, but also a rich and varied habitat. During the visit, it is possible to observe the ancient windmills, once used to pump water and grind salt, and today iconic symbols of these areas.

The salt extraction process in the Sicilian salt pans follows traditional methods that have been handed down for generations. The sea water is conveyed into shallow tanks, the evaporation tanks, where, under the action of the sun and wind, it slowly transforms into salt, which is then collected manually by salt workers.
